Back 4 Blood is an upcoming first-person cooperative zombie shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, the same development team behind the popular Left 4 Dead franchise.
After watching the Back 4 Blood gameplay trailer, first aired during The Game Awards, I think you’ll agree that it is basically Left 4 Dead 3.
Back 4 Blood was announced more than a year ago. Back then, the studio called it a co-op zombie FPS with a “whole lot of new stuff.” I don’t know how much “new stuff” there is in this one. It looks very much like a Left 4 Dead game. However, the game is definitely going to be “more” and “bigger.”
According to Turtle Rock’s Chris Ashton, Back 4 Blood brings “more playable characters, more missions, more story.” It will also have a greater variety of zombies, called “Ridden.”
Most Ridden look like your run-of-the-mill zombies, but some have unique characteristics. We have a four-armed zombie that leaps and shoots sticky webs, a big zombie that vomits and explodes, and a tall zombie with a hammer-like arm. But the scariest one is a giant 20-foot-tall monstrosity that bursts out of the ground and appears almost unkillable.
If you want to see more Back 4 Blood, you can watch the cinematic reveal trailer below and tune in for a gameplay livestream on December 17. There’s a closed PC alpha test scheduled to start right after the stream, so be sure to register if you want a chance to be among the first people to play the game.
Back 4 Blood will be out on June 22, 2021 for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
