After years of waiting it’s finally coming! The Binding of Isaac developer, Edmund McMillen, announced the game’s next mega expansion is going to be the long-rumored Repentance.

It’s been about a year since McMillen’s last project The Legend of Bumbo was released. It seems the developer is now ready to return and close the chapter on The Binding of Isaac series, as Repentance is dubbed as the “FINAL FINAL FINAL” DLC in the series.

As with the other expansions to the game, this one will feature plenty of new content. The major additions will be 2 new characters, over 130 new items (making for a total of over 700), new synergies with older items, a new alternative path (!!!) with new room types, and over 25 bosses.

I could keep talking about what’s coming in Repentance for hours, as there are over 500 hours of new gameplay content planned. What seems to be most important, however, is that this is going to be a sequel-like DLC. The new content is aiming to turn The Binding of Isaac into its ultimate version.

Who knows, maybe we’ll get a “The Binding of Isaac ultimate Edition” in the future with all of the DLCs, including this one.

The Binding of Isaac Repentance

Hopefully, all of these additions will live up to the years of expectations. After saying the game is currently 90% finished, McMillen has confirmed he is working closely with the mod team behind the Antibirth mod, so they could deliver the vision he has for the end of The Binding of Isaac.

There is still no clear plan for getting Repentance to the console versions of the game, as the developer is not the one handling them. But since all the other expansions eventually arrived on consoles, there is no reason Repentance should be a Steam-exclusive.

As of now, The Binding of Isaac Repentance has no official release date, but McMillen did say he expect to release it by the end of 2020.
