Among Us took PC and mobile devices by storm, and is currently the most popular game on Twitch. So it may come as a shock to you to learn developer Innersloth is canceling Among Us 2.

When Among Us 2 was announced about a month ago, no one was really surprised. Among Us was originally released in 2018, but became popular when it caught the eye of many Streamers and YouTubers earlier in 2020. A sequel just made sense.

But in September 25, Innersloth announced they are canceling the sequel.

However, In the official announcement, Innersloth said they are canceling Among Us 2 so they can add its content to the original game. Truthfully, that makes even more sense than releasing a sequel, given how incredibly popular the game is right now.

“We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1. All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1,” the devlog post reads.

“This is probably the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it.”

The developers originally opted for a full sequel because the game’s code is “so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content.” Basically, the original Among Us was never intended to become as big as it is. Or, at least, the developers weren’t expecting it.

Also, releasing a new Among Us game will both split the community and alienate the new players that only recently came aboard when the game’s popularity surged.

The blog post continues to detail the upcoming changes, including fixing server issues, a colorblind mode, a friends system, and a new level.

With new content coming to Among Us, and Fall Guys Season 2 launching soon, fans of adorable blobs working together and/or against each other should be set for some time now.
