Of Bird and Cage is something a little different than what we’re used to. According to developer Capricia Productions and publisher All in! Games, it’s a “metal music-driven adventure game.”
Gamescom 2020 was the first time we saw any new footage from the game in a long time. The last time was 2014 when it was still called The Birdcage.
Of Bird and Cage is a modern take on the classic story “Beauty and the Beast” – a twisted love story between a kidnapped woman and her capture.
Gitta is held prisoner by a mysterious man named Bres, and slowly starts developing symptoms of Stockholm syndrome. Her conflicted feelings towards Bres lock her in a second, mental prison she might not be able to escape from.
The game will switch between Gitta’s and Bres’s perspectives and will be driven by both player choice, and the symphonic metal soundtrack.

Speaking of the soundtrack – music plays a significant role in Of Bird and Cage. Developer Capricia Productions wants you to feel like you’re inside a metal album. For that purpose, they brought on some big names from the metal scene:
- Kobra Paige (Kobra and the Lotus)
- Davidavi ‘Vidi’ Dolev (Gunned Down Horses)
- Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses)
- Rob van der Loo (Epica)
- Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation)
- Casey Grillo (ex-Kamelot)
- Rocky Grey (ex-Evanescence)
- Mike Lepond (Symphony X)
- Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria)
Of Bird and Cage is scheduled for a 2021 release on PC. There’s a chance the game will reach consoles as well, but there’s no official word yet.
