Fall Guys developer Mediatonic just shared the news that their cute, competitive, and crowd-pleasing battle royale-like has sold 7 million units on Steam alone. That is quite the achievement.
The dev’s celebratory tweet also reveals that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockdown is the most downloaded PlayStation Plus title in history of the program.
The whole thing is doubly impressive when you consider the indie game only came out on August 4 – 22 days ago.
It seems like Sony’s deal with publisher Devolver Digital to give every PS Plus subscriber the game for free on launch paid off. A popular hit like Fall Guys in a big incentive for gamers to fork over the yearly $60 subscription fee to download the game in August, and keep it for the rest of the year.
Sony struck a similar deal with Psyonix in 2015. Psyonix is, of course, the developer of Rocket League – another indie game that became a worldwide sensation and a successful esport.
The announcement comes just a day before Mediatonic and Devolver are set to reveal the first details about Fall Guys Season 2. Season 2 will be officially unveiled during Gamescom Opening Night Live 202 on August 27. Who knows, maybe they’ll even announce the game is coming to mobile.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockdown is available on Steam, and on PS4 for free for PS Plus subscribers.
