Razputin “Raz” Aquato, psychic prodigy and the latest recruit in the Psychonauts, is back for another mind-bending adventure in Psychonauts 2. But you already knew that.

What you might not know, is that developer Double Fine just revealed a new mental world for Raz to jump, fight, and sing his way through with the help the mote of light, voiced by actor and vocalist Jack Black.

Raz is hot on the trail of a mole inside the Psychonauts – a dangerous individual bent on unleashing a psychic monster on the world. But the brain with the information about the identity of the mole has been left in a jar for way too long.

Inside this pickled brain, Raz meets the mote of light, a floating ball of light how reigns over a psychedelic landscape straight from the ’60s. They take a colorful trip from concert halls and the strange backstage of the mind to reawaken the mote’s lost senses.

As he travels through these kaleidoscopic landscapes, Raz learns a new mind-bending ability called “Time Bubble.” With it, he can slow down moving objects to create makeshift platforms, or freeze fast-moving enemies long enough to punch or PSI-Blast them during combat.

Psychonauts 2 is shaping out to be a beautiful sequel, with plenty of what fans loved in the original game: bizarre worlds to explore, memorable characters, platforming challenges, and Double Fine’s brand of comedy. As a post by content and community manager Heather Alexandra points out, we can be “slinking around a dark world full of demonic teeth or going on a buddy-comedy road-trip to awaken lost senses.” Sounds fantastic.

Psychonauts 2 releases in 2021 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X through Xbox Game Pass, but also on PlayStation 4 through… the PlayStation Store, I would guess.
