Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, a narrative RPG set in the World of Darkness, gets its first proper trailer. We also learn a few more details about the game, its main characters, and the setting.
Before we sink our teeth into the new details, here’s the game’s first trailer, titled “The Invitation.” It doesn’t show any gameplay, but it definitely knows how to paint an intriguing picture.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong takes place in Boston, during the reign of Prince Hazel Iversen, also known as the Swan. Hazel rules over the city with “an iron hand in a velvet glove,” enforcing the Masquerade however she can.
But as rumors of betrayal, murder, and power struggles reach fever pitch, Prince Hazel’s rule begins to crumble and the city of Boston descends into chaos.
You’ll play as three different vampires, each over a hundred years old. Together, they will use their vampire powers to “separate the truth from the lies” and nudge events down the desired path. You’ll switch between all three characters, upgrade their different disciplines, and decide with which point of view you want to follow through.
We still don’t know which clans our characters belong to, but we do know they are three distinct ones. Swansong lets you use intimidation, seduction, or stealth when approaching a situation, so my money’s on the Brujah, Toreador, and maybe Nosferatu clans.

Of course, each approach will have its consequences. Other Vampire: The Masquerade games, like Coteries of New York, are all about choice and consequence, and Swansong is no different. Choices you make during the investigation, and your social interactions with characters can have a lasting impact on the fate of your characters, and the whole of Boston.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong was announced in 2019, but we haven’t heard from developer Big Bad Wolf Studios since. It’s nice to final have some solid information about it.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is coming to PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in 2021.
