The Outlast Trials trailer reveals a little more information about Red Barrels’ upcoming co-op horror title.
We already know the game is set during the Cold War, but know we learn it takes place in a secret research facility dedicated to mind control.
We’ll play a “human guinea pig” unwillingly recruited by the Murkoff Corporation to test advanced methods of brainwashing and mind control. These methods include nailing night-vision goggles to people’s skulls. At least you’ll have your hands free.
You’ll need your hands to cooperate with up to three other players if you want to survival these deadly trials. The teaser trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, but it does give as a hint as to what these trials can be.
The short video description mentions that “your morals will be challenged, your endurance tested, and your sanity crushed.” So I’m guessing we’ll have some tough choices to make, like leaving a fellow test subject behind to save our own skin. If the final game is anything like what we see in the trailer, it shouldn’t be too difficult to decide.
The Outlast Trials will begin in 2021 on PC through Steam and Epic Game Store. You can play it alone or as part of a four-player group. Red Barrels claims it’s “always better to shit your pants in good company” but I’m not sure I agree…
