Horizon Forbidden West is the official title of Horizon Zero Dawn 2. We learned that right at the end of Sony’s PlayStation 5 “Future of Gaming” event, while we were eagerly awaiting a Knack 3 announcement.

Horizon 2’s trailer is a lengthy one – three and a half minutes of in-game footage showcasing the power of the PlayStation 5. Take a look:

As a Horizon Zero Dawn sequel, we still don’t know where the story of Horizon Forbidden West is going. The original game tied up its loose ends in a satisfying way, and much of the world’s mysteries aren’t all that mysterious anymore. It should be intriguing to see where a sequel take it from there.

We do get to see Sylens in the trailer for a second or two, and we know he has some big plans for HADES – namely going after those who woke the evil AI in the first place.

The name “Forbidden West” hints we’ll be heading westward from Colorado to California through Utah, Nevada, and the Mojave Desert. We can visit the remnants of the Golden Bridge and go for a swim (and a dive) in the Pacific Ocean.

Horizon Forbidden West

We never went underwater in Horizon Zero Dawn, so sneaking and fighting robots under the waves is something utterly new to the series. We can also see Aloy riding a flying beast, so it seems Horizon 2 is taking the action to new heights as well as depths. The floating islands in the distance hint that flying is going to be a big part of the game.

Of course, Aloy can still climb with the best of them, so we’ll be doing a lot of that as well. Considering how gorgeous the view is, I really don’t mind spending some time scaling a cliff or a vegetation-covered skyscraper.

The trailer is full of other interesting and curious visuals, like a holographic Chinese dragon, a giant robot turtle, and a massive robot mammoth that’s straight out of that battle in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West doesn’t have a release date yet, but I wouldn’t expect it before 2021, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Meanwhile, if you want to catch up on Horizon Zero Dawn (and I really recommend you do that) you can do that on PlayStation 4 and soon on Steam as well.
