After exploring the world of H.P. Lovecraft with The Sinking City, developer Frogwares goes back to what it does best – Sherlock Holmes games.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is a story-driven detective thriller, just like all the other Sherlock Holmes titles. But this time, we go back to when the world-famous detective was a rebellious (and a little bit emo) young man.

In Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, young Sherlock seeks an opportunity to prove himself as a capable detective. When new information about his mother’s death comes to light, he goes back to the exotic island in the Mediterranean where it all happened, to solve the mystery.

Back when he gets there, he discovers that crime and corruption run rampant, so he’ll have to treat carefully. Or not – it’s totally up to you.

You’ll explore this open-world as you see fit, and decide how you approach your investigation. You can use deduction, deception, disguises, and even violence to get to the truth. What you do once you get to it is also up to your discretion – sometimes truth and justice are not one and the same.

Along the way, there will be those who try to stop you from reaching your goal. According to the official press release, Sherlock can “spot enemy vulnerabilities with your brilliant observation skills, or exploit the environment to take someone down while keeping your own hands clean.” Or you just pick up a weapon and get straight to the point, but that’s not really Holmes’s style, now is it?

Going with you on this open-world adventure is Jon. No, not John Watson – a different Jon. The developers make a point of hinting Jon has something to hide, so perhaps he is actually a young Moriarty in disguise! Then again, maybe not… I guess we’ll see.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One comes out in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
