Streets of Rage 4 video brings back retro fighters from previous games

Streets of Rage 4 Publisher Dotemu, together with co-developers Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube, is dropping more videos for us to droll over.

Following updates regarding the revival of the classic beat ’em up and new characters, the latest Streets of Rage 4 video reveals we’ll be able to unlock 12 retro fighters from past Streets of Rage games, in all their pixelated glory. This nostalgic tribute is exciting news for fans (such as myself), and it shows the developers know what players want in a new Streets of Rage title.

The unlockable pixeled characters will come with their original move sets and abilities, which are unique to their game. For example, Streets of Rage 1’s fighters can call the cops for their special moves, while Streets of Rage 3’s characters can sprint and roll throughout stages.

Along with the existing roster of hand-animated characters, the total count is 17 fighters, a fantastic number a beat ’em up game. Not only are the characters being revived, but you can also listen to the Streets of Rage 1 & 2 soundtracks, or kick it with your modern hand-drawn enemies to the sound of the ’90s.

Streets of Rage 4 will be available this spring on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
