Ruined King is a turn-based RPG developed by Airship Syndicate – known for developing Darksiders Genesis and Battle Chasers: Nightwar.
Ruined King takes place in the world of League and Legends, after the events of The Burning Tides. Judging by the teaser trailer below, the game is set during the Harrowing.
We can hear Thresh, a horrifying specter and one of LoL’s many champions, unleashing the harrowing upon Bilgewater and promises his king that all Runeterra would know fear, suffering, and ruin.
He also promises the king that “they will know your name,” which would be nice because even we’re not even sure who he is referring to.
I assume Thresh honors the former King of the Argent Throne, who created the Shadow Isles in a failed resurrection ritual. It’s the same failed ritual that transformed Thresh into an undead spirit.
Thresh willingly led the king to the fabled Waters of Life, where they attempted to resurrect the queen. When she returned as a horror of decaying flesh, the horrified king conjured a spell to end their lives and bind them together for eternity.
The spell worked, but it had devastating consequences. A wave of magical force tore across Helia, leeching the life out of the living, and turning them into undead creatures. Thresh himself rose as a spectral monstrosity, ready to torment others in life and beyond.
Now that we covered the background of the events leading to the Ruined King, we just need to wait for more information on the game itself. The game’s official site reveals it takes place in the port city of Bilgewater, and on Shadow Isles, but that’s most of what we know so far.
The setting should be intriguing to any League of Legends fan, and I personally can’t wait to learn more.
Ruined King doesn’t have a release date yet, nor do we know on which platforms it will be available. We can expect the game to hit the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (maybe even on next-gen consoles) in 2020.
