Big Bad Wolf Studios, the developers of the narrative adventure game The Council, has announced Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. The game is set in the World of Darkness tabletop RPG universe, just like the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong

Based on the fifth edition of Vampire: The Masquerade, Swansong puts you in control of three different vampires. Each of the three belongs to a different clan in the Camarilla, a sort of secret vampire society.

According to the fifth edition’s rulebook, there are seven clans in the Camarilla. Hopefully, Big Bad Wolf will choose three clans with unique traits and points of view. That way, playing each character will provide us with a different gameplay experience, or at least multiple story paths. I’m hoping for a Mlakavian; it’s always fun playing a Mlakavian.

According to the game’s description, our characters will face “whispers of conspiracy, murder and power struggles.” We’ll have to protect our clan, separate fact from fiction, and uphold the laws of the Masquerade.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong seems to have a lot in common with The Council. Big Bad Wolf plans to focus on storytelling, but add robust RPG mechanics alongside the narrative. In The Council, that meant upgrading skills to unlock more possible actions or conversations, which eventually made the game very easy. I hope Swansong’s RPG system will be deeper.

Bigben Interactive and Big Bad Wolf teased a new Vampire: The Masquerade game a few months ago. Back then, Bigben confirmed the game won’t be episodic and will release as a full title in the near future. Now we have more information and even a release window.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong will release in 2021.
