Moons of Madness release date on PC and console revealed in new trailer

Publisher Funcom has released a new trailer, revealing the official Moons of Madness release date on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

PC gamers will travel to Mars for a hefty dose of cosmic horror on October 22. That’s just in time for Halloween. Console owners will join them a few months later, on January 21, 2020. That’s in time for National Hug Day, which I’m sure we’ll all need after playing.

The trailer promises we’re in for a “boring Martian routine.” If that’s boring, I really don’t want to see what passes for excitement on the Red Planet.

You play as Shane Newehart, chief engineer on a research facility on Mars. Mars is about 140 million miles away, so if something goes wrong (and you know it does), help isn’t coming. At least not right away. Shane and the player are on their own against whatever the planet, and Shane’s psyche, will throw at them.

“We wanted to make a game that combines Lovecraftian elements and Mars exploration,” explains Rock Pocket Games CEO Ivan Moen. “And central to a good Lovecraft experience is the battle that goes on in your own mind. You will face external threats, sure, but having to face your inner demons at the same time is what makes this truly terrifying.”

Moons of Madness is set in the same universe as The Secret World MMO, where conspiracies and dark secrets are commonplace. And although The Secret World-players will recognize certain names and themes, playing one is by no means necessary to enjoy the other.

The release date of Moons of Madness is right around the corner. Here’s hoping it’s scary enough for an out-of-this-world Halloween. From what I’ve already played, I can tell you it looks like it is.
