After approximately 6-months in Early Access on Steam, Risk of Rain 2 has launched on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Developers Hopoo Games and publisher Gearbox Software made the surprise announcement during PAX West, and 5 hours later the game was available on all platforms. The PC version is still in Early Access, though.
Risk of Rain 2 is the sequel of the action roguelike title Risk of Rain. It puts you in the shoes of an explorer sent to chart unknown territories and escape through dangerous areas.
As opposed to the first game, the sequel comes with an added dimension – the third dimension.
The surprise launch comes with a brand new cinematic trailer that shows Risk of Rain 2’s finest features. It does an awesome job at drawing you into playing the game and start exploring.
On the console version, you start the game with only one character, but you can unlock all seven playable explorers who have different stats and abilities. You can even use your explorer special abilities and create synergies with one another and make powerful combinations.
Thanks to items mechanic, another roguelike feature, you can get more than 70 available items in every run. Combined with all the other unlockables, you have a lot of reasons to come back to Risk of Rain 2 for run after run. It is also one of the few roguelikes to support co-op. The multiplayer option is for up to 4 players online, so go and get your friends, and start exploring together.
Risk of Rain 2 is available now on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. The game is still on Steam Early Access and will launch on PC in spring 2020.
