Gylt was first announced as a Google Stadia exclusive as part of the platform’s initial lineup. However, it appears that everyone will be able to play the game, even if they don’t buy into Google’s game streaming service.
When asked by Eurogamer about the game’s exclusivity, Tequila Works’ co-founder and creative director Raúl Rubio Munárriz said: “OK we haven’t confirmed that it’s an exclusive yet.”
“Of course, we will try to make Gylt accessible for everyone. I guess it’s not a design question, it’s more of a business question. Today is not the time to answer that question but rest assured, everyone will be able to play the game.”
So is it a Google Stadia exclusive or not? Munárriz couldn’t confirm nor deny it. He doesn’t seem happy with the idea that “forking over” $129 for the Stadia Founders Edition bundle will be the only way to play Gylt when it comes out.
“Maybe that would be a question for Google,” he said when asked about it.
In case you missed it when Tequila Works announced it, Gylt is an exploration adventure game where you “face your worst fears and are confronted with the emotional impact of your actions.” It follows a missing girl named Emily who is stuck in a creepy town called Bethelwood. There, she will need to hide from the terrible creatures that are after her and confront her worst nightmares.
From the teaser trailer, the game looks a little bit like Rime meets Little Nightmares, which is a vibe we really dig. We also know that playing through the whole thing should take you more than 10 hours.
Gylt is coming out on November 30 for Google Stadia and perhaps other platforms as well. We’ll just have to wait and see. Some of our posts include links to online retail stores. We get a small cut if you buy something through one of our links. Don't worry, it doesn't cost you anything extra.
