Baldur’s Gate 3 trailer confirms Larian Studios are working on a sequel

After about a week of teasing the internet, making it look everywhere for clues and information, Larian Studios finally dropped the bomb – a new Baldur’s Gate 3 trailer.

The trailer above is slightly unsettling, showing a mind flayer slowly taking over a Flaming Fists soldier’s body. As lightning flashes, we can see a massive army of mind flayers floating in the night’s sky behind him. They are coming from the Underdark to seek delicious humanoid brains, and maybe form a new empire in the way.

Larian aims to push the boundaries with Baldur’s Gate 3, building a “big grand adventure” narrative and plenty of player freedom with choices that matter and alter the course of the story. We’ll also see unique companions and memorable combat, letting gamers play together with a party of friends or single-player.

“We’re all about creating reactive, systemic worlds that respect player agency and having a chance to apply our team’s skillset in a universe as rich as Dungeons & Dragons is a lot of fun,” said Swen Vincke, Creative Director at Larian Studios. “We’re working very closely with Wizards to bring an unprecedented level of immersion to the realm of Faerun and I can’t wait to show the world what our team cooked up.”

Bioware passing the torch on to Larian Studios after almost twenty years is very exciting news. Larian has promised it is trying to keep the spirit of the sequel true and pure to Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition by working closely with the D&D team at Wizards of the Coast. Larian showed off that collaboration in a humorous community update video.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on PC via Steam and Google’s new Stadia platform. There is no release date at the moment, though.
