Blasphemous gameplay trailer shows brutal combat, twisted bosses

The Game Kitchen, the studio behind The Last Door horror adventure games, has released a new gameplay trailer for Blasphemous.

Blasphemous is somewhat of a departure for the Spanish indie studio in terms of gameplay, but not themes. This is a “dark and punishing” action platformer with Metroidvania exploration and Souls-like combat. As you can see from the trailer above, horror, cults, and religion are still the main themes, just like in The Last Door.

You will play as The Penitent One, a sole survivor of the massacre of the “Silent Sorrow.” Trapped in an “endless cycle of death and rebirth,” it’s down to you to free the land of Cvstodia from a terrible curse known as The Miracle.

Explore a nightmarish, non-linear world full of twisted religious themes and discover its hellish secrets. Use your sword and skills to unleash devastating combos and brutal executions, all meticulously animated in beautiful yet very disturbing pixel art.

Equipment is also themed around religion. Ancient relics, rosary beads, and prayers can summon the “powers of the heavens” for powerful attacks and abilities. Collect and equip the right gear that suits your playstyle, and engage in the fast-paced and brutal combat against hordes of grotesque monsters and titanic bosses.

Blasphemous is coming soon to PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
