John Wick stars in a new action game called John Wick Hex. It’s a “fast-paced, action-oriented strategy game” that’s supposed to accompany the third movie in the series, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

In John Wick Hex, you don the beard of professional hitman John Wick and shot a lot of bad guys in the face (and other body parts). But this isn’t your run-of-the-mill shoot ’em up. You’ll have to carefully calculate every move in what the game calls “fight-choreographed chess.” Every action you take has immediate cost and consequences, so you can say Hex is a tactical shooter that requires strategic thinking. You can’t just keep shooting and hope for the best – ammo is limited, so you should make every bullet count, and scavenge guns from fallen enemies when you can.

Don’t worry about the game spoiling the movie; it will tell a whole new story set within the same world, with Ian McShane and Lance Reddick reprising the roles of Winston and Chron respectively. As you progress through this original story, you unlock new weapons, suits and locations.

The really weird part is who’s making John Wick Hex. Bithell Games is an indie studio run by Mike Bithell, who made Thomas Was Alone, Volume and Subsurface Circular. Out of the three, I only played Thomas Was Alone, which is an endearing, emotional and funny platformer about a group of rectangles struggling to escape a dying digital world. It will be interesting to see who he tackles the John Wick franchise.

John Wick Hex is currently in development for consoles and PC. The PC version will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
