Earthworm Jim, the classic action platformer starring a worm in a super suit, returns after 20 years. The sequel, aptly titled Earthworm Jim 3, is developed by many of the same team that made the original two titles. But, there a catch – Earthworm Jim 3 will be exclusive to the Intellivision Amico.

The news came via a tweet by Tommy Tallarico, who was sound designer and composer on both Earthworm Jim 1 and 2. In it, Tallarico confirmד that the entire original development team is back for Earthworm Jim 3. This team includes the original creator Doug TenNapel, as well as David Perry, Tommy Tallarico, Nick Bruty, Mike Dietz, Tom Tanaka, and Joey Kuras.

Tallarico is also the CEO of Intellivision, the company behind the Intellivision Amico console – a new console due for release on October 10, 2020. That is probably why Earthworm Jim 3 will launch as an Amico exclusive.

“We have been talking about this moment for many years, it’s a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together,” Tallarico says in the official press release. “We’re looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world.”

And they indeed shared that reunion with the fans on Saturday, May 4, in a live stream on YouTube, Twitch and Facebook.

The first Earthworm Jim launched back in 1994 for the Sega Genesis, and since became a quite the success. The game spawned a sequel in 1995 and an HD remake for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.
