Obsidian Entertainment, developer of Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity, have announced their newest project at The Game Awards – The Outer Worlds. Private Division will be publishing the game.
Obsidian has teased the announcement earlier this week, but now we finally have a full trailer for the game.
The trailer sets off as your player character wakes from cryostasis. You are a part of a group of settlers who have arrived at a colony at the edge of space, but after greedy corporations have taken control of the settlement, you and your fellow colonists are left stranded in cryosleep.
A member of the colony hires you to help liberate the settlement from the clutches of the greedy space corporations, and you become a bounty hunter of sorts. You find yourself in the middle of a conspiracy that could threaten to destroy the colony. So far so good?
As expected from Obsidian, we will be making tough choices throughout the game. We can choose to help colony members and pick sides, but as the trailer shows, these decisions will be accompanied by a significant amount of humor, too. Unlike games with a similar tone, like Fallout 76 or the Borderlands franchise, The Outer Worlds will be a single-player title.
The trailer continues to show alien environments and factories that are very reminiscent of Fallout’s vaults. We get to see very little combat, but from what we do know, we’re expecting something similar to Rage or Borderlands.
We get to see an electrified Gatling gun, a machine gun, an energy shotgun, a boomerang, a blade, a shock baton, a hammer, and a pistol. There will be a vast arsenal to wreak havoc within The Outer Worlds.
Finally, it also looks like we’re going to have some way to travel outside the planet. The trailer shows plenty of space flights, which suggests we might be going to other, nearby moons.
The Outer Worlds is set to release in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and I’ll be anxiously waiting for it.
