Unavowed, the newest title by indie developer and publisher Wadjet Eye Games, will be out on August 8. To celebrate, here’s the game’s official launch trailer.

In Unavowed you play a person who is “possessed by some kind of demon.” After six months of your demonic parasite forcing you to cut a bloody trail through New York City, you are rescued by a mysterious group dedicated to fighting evil.

This group is the titular Unavowed. Since you can’t go back to your old life, you decide to start a new one as the latest member of this ancient order.

Wadjet Eye Games are arguably the best in the business when it comes to retro adventure games. I’ve played almost every game developed or published by them, and they always nail the pacing, visuals, and puzzles.

Unavowed is somewhat of a departure for Wadjet Eye Games. Not so much is style, as this game is as retro as they come, but in gameplay. While most of their games tell a linear story littered with clever inventory and dialogue puzzles, this one is a little different.

For the first time in the studio’s history, this upcoming game will offer branching storylines and a few RPG elements. You’ll be able to choose between a male or female character with one of three origin stories, as well as four different companions with their own talents and abilities.

Unavowed

Unavowed will be Wadjet Eye’s best-looking game to date, with a breathtaking 640×360 resolution. True, that’s not much, but it’s double the resolution of any of their previous games.

This is first original IP developed by Dave Gilbert, founder of Wadjet Eye Games, since the Blackwell Legacy in 2006. The indie studio did develop the great Shardlight in 2016, but as a fan, I’m pretty excited to play a new Dave Gilbert title.

Unavowed will be released on PC on August 8. The game is already listed on Steam so you can head over there and wishlist it right now.
