The first RAGE 2 gameplay trailer is out, and I have to admit it looks really, really good.

We also got quite a lot of information about the game’s story, open world, and main character. But first – watch the gameplay trailer. It looks way better than the announcement trailer.

RAGE 2 takes place on the same shattered Earth as the original game. As you might remember from RAGE, this isn’t your typical gentle, “let’s rebuild the Earth together” kumbaya sort of post-apocalypse. There are bandits, mutants and post-apocalyptic fascists, and someone needs to deal with them.

That someone is Walker, the last Ranger of Vineland. Armed with a wide arsenal of weapons, vehicles and strange powers, Walker sets off to take down the tyrannical Authority (those are the post-apocalyptic fascists I mentioned).

Technically, the Authority is after Walker and not the other way around. Led by General Cross, the Authority is on a mission to hunt down the few remaining pureblood Arkists. And wouldn’t you know it – you are one of those pureblood Arkists.

Luckily for you, there are a lot of guns and gear you can use to fight back.

RAGE 2 gameplay

The gameplay video shows us some of the “big fucking guns” we can use to rid the wasteland of the Authority. However, Walker Vineland Ranger has a few other tricks at his disposal – namely Nanotrite abilities.

These special abilities manifest themselves as powerful attacks such as a devastating slam attack that crushes enemies from above, or a lethal energy push that sends enemies flying.

Using Nanotrite abilities will also charge up Walker’s Overdrive meter. Once triggered, Overdrive gives your guns a little extra stopping power, and even unlocks new weapon attributes. Furthermore, enemies killed while in Overdrive drop better loot and your health slowly regenerates.

RAGE 2 hopes to combine id Software’s first-person shooter excellence with Avalanche Studios’ chaotic open-world know-how. There’s also going to be a big dose of vehicle combat – something Avalanche has some experience with thanks to their Mad Max game.

The open world will consist of an array of areas to explore, from dense jungles and swamplands, to open deserts where the traffic is deadly.

RAGE 2 will be launching on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Spring 2019. If you tune into the BE3 Showcase on June 10, you’ll get to see new RAGE 2 gameplay.
