Come on Bethesda, is this really the first impression you want RAGE 2 to make?

Yeah, RAGE 2 was officially announced. The announcement came with a short “live-action” teaser trailer, which is frankly one of the worst video game trailers ever.

The teaser trailer shows a bunch of Mad Max rejects driving around, shooting and making funny faces. One of them is so edgy, she simulates giving us the finger using shotgun shells.

There’s no gameplay, but a slide at the end of the video promises a “worldwide gameplay reveal” is coming tomorrow, May 15. So we’ll wait till then to see if the actual game is as cringy as this teaser trailer.

But enough moaning about the trailer. Let’s talk about what we know about RAGE 2 so far.

The short answer is “not much.” According to the game’s official site, RAGE 2 is a “true open world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything.”

I’m willing to bet there will be a Battle Royale mode somewhere in there, but I have no evidence to support this wild claim. Call it a hunch; a not very strong hunch.

We also know the game is being developed in association with Avalanche Studios (you can thank Resetera for that nice bit of info). Avalanche Studios is best known for the Just Cause series, but they also developed Mad Max. That may explain some visual choices.

The original RAGE was developed by id Software, so it focused more on firefights in confined areas. RAGE 2 seems to be more colorful, with more driving and an actual open world. Kind of like a “Borderlands meets Sunset Overdrive” situation.

That is not a combination I’m existed for.

We don’t have an official RAGE 2 release date, but we do know the game will come to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
