Serious Sam is back to blow up hordes of monsters in Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass.
The game was officially announced through a new teaser trailer. The video shows Sam riding a motorbike through the countryside, before being “attacked” by one headless kamikaze.
If you know anything about Serious Sam, then you can already see how it ends – explosions and many more enemies on the horizon.
The trailer by itself doesn’t reveal too much about the game. The attached press release mentioned the full game will be revealed at E3 2018, which is a couple of months from now.
But I have a feeling that Serious Sam 4 will be more than just an FPS where you gun down “massive hordes of enemies” with an “explosive array of weapons.” I believe it’s going to be a mainly multiplayer game. More specifically – a Battle Royale game.
Why? First of all, the game is called “Planet Badass”, a title that strongly hints that a lot of people (perhaps a planet-worth) are involved. Then there is the game’s official art:
You can clearly see the silhouette of Sam standing square in the middle, surrounded by eight other characters. Now, these characters could be just NPCs, but the combination of the image the game’s subtitle tells me there’s more to it than that.
Serious Sam 4 will probably still have a full single-player campaign (with no desert levels according to the Steam page), but I believe there’s going be a big emphasis on multiplayer.
The franchise’s signature over-the-top action will work great in a Battle Royle mode, especially if developer Croteam mixes elements of PvE in there somewhere.
Then again, I can be totally wrong, and we’re going to have a “classic” Serious Sam action romp. That’s would be great as well (though kind of uninspiring).
Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass will be officially unveiled during Devolver Digital’s E3 2018 press event. Some of our posts include links to online retail stores. We get a small cut if you buy something through one of our links. Don't worry, it doesn't cost you anything extra.
