It’s been a while since we’ve last gotten some info about Metal Gear Survive, so a new trailer is always a good excuse to write something about the game.
The single-player gameplay trailer reveals many new details and answers some questions regarding the nature of the game. We’ve got new story details, a look at the crafting system, and base-building.
The gameplay seems very similar to that of the previous game in the series, MGSV: The Phantom Pain, which isn’t a bad thing.
The player will be able to recruit survivors to join their base and fill in roles in its defense, similar to recruiting soldiers in MGSV: The Phantom Pain. In addition, the base-building aspects seem a bit like a step up from those in The Phantom Pain, requiring actual base design and strategy instead of simply choosing what to spend your money on and having it appear in a designated spot.
The crafting system involves gathering materials like wood by chopping down trees or collecting scrap materials for iron. These can later be used for the construction of the base and for crafting new equipment and weapons.
Survive does seemĀ to put a bigger emphasis on melee weapons than in previous installments of the series. However, you can still build giant Gatling guns and even vehicles.
Mind you, this isn’t the first time we see the game in action. We previously got a pretty long gameplay demo, showcasing the game’s co-op mode and combat.
As for the story… well, it’s still kind of hard to tell what exactly goes on in the game. In the single-player campaign, you are sent to a different dimensionĀ because of… reasons. There you encounter other people, save them and then go on to do the same.
We’ll let you try and figure out more of the story yourself, by watching the video.
Metal Gear Survive comes out on February 20 in the US and February 22 in Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC.
