There’s a new The Last of Us Part 2 trailer, and I’m all excited about it.

The Last of Us Part 2 has been official revealed about a year ago, and since then Naughty Dog has been mostly quiet about it. The new trailer breaks that silence.

The video shows an in-game cutscene, starring characters we’ve never seen before. We don’t know who they are, and have zero context to why they are doing what they are doing, but most of it isn’t very nice. Be aware that the trailer you’re about to see is somewhat violent.

The group we see in the video appears to be some sort of cult. They have something against pregnancy, as we hear the leader tell the soon-to-be-hanged woman she is “nested with sin”.

Is the parasitic fungus that ravaged the world of The Last of Us somehow preventing people from giving birth, or can even infect the fetus? The fact that we have bad guys who target pregnant women gives new life the fan theory that Ellie might be pregnant.

Speaking of Ellie, we don’t see her nor Joel anywhere. It raises the question – why are we seeing this? Naughty Dog said these new characters are an integral part of the journey, but if neither Ellie nor Joel are around, then could it mean we’ll be playing as other characters?

After seeing these new characters in action, I have to say I’m not totally against the idea. They look like interesting, capable people, and exploring the world of The Last of Us Part 2 as a bow-wielding ninja or a strong women with a hammer isn’t the worst idea I’ve heard…

Oh, and I have to address how beautiful everything looks. The trailer shows the newest iteration of Naughty Dog’s engine, and it looks absolutely amazing.

The Last of Us Part 2 is currently planned for a 2019 release. This means we have at least another year of either eagerly waiting for more scraps of information, or trying to avoid any mention of the game until we can play it ourselves.
