thatgamecompany has announced its first game in over 5 years. Sky is a multiplayer “social adventure game” coming first to iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
The teaser trailer shows that Sky is very similar, at least with its visuals, to Journey. Cloaked figures run, jump and fly together above the clouds instead of in a desert.
According to the studio, the game is meant to be played and shared with friends and family.
“It’s hard to explain the game, but a good place would be to say that Sky is a game specially created to be played, and shared, among loved ones and family,” the announcement goes. “If you can imagine the delight of visiting a theme park where lasting memories are made, we envision Sky will sometimes feel like that.”
The studio has also released a Q&A video, where Geoff Keighley talks with Jenova Chen, the president of thatgamecompany. The two talk about the gameplay, the ideas behind the game, and its future. The video includes some gameplay footage too.
Sky will arrive soon on iOS devices, but will reach other platforms at a later date. thatgamecompany has confirmed that this isn’t an exclusive, but a timed exclusive.
Will we be getting a PC and console versions of the game, or that simply means it will also be available on Android devices at some point? I don’t know, but I’m rooting for both options.
