Halo 2: Awakening the Nightmare, the game’s first story DLC, will be released on September 26. Microsoft revealed the date during Gamescom, where the game was on show.

The expansion will let you play as the bad guys, The Banished, in a whole new story. In it, the Banished will face the Flood as they protect their Ark. The Flood will be able to take many different forms to make things more challenging for you.

The other major addition to the game, beside the new story, is the Terminus Firefight mode. In this new co-op mode, 3 players will square off against waves of enemies. There will be new leaders to choose from, and new units to deploy. You can see some gameplay footage of the Terminus Firefight mode in the video below.

Apart from Awakening the Nightmare, Halo Wars 2 will get a new update. All players will get 2 new multiplayer maps, Arena tournaments and a spectator mode. Since the game will also run on the new Xbox One X, the update will include 4K and HDR support.

Halo 2: Awakening the Nightmare is coming out September 26 to both Xbox One and PC.
