You can now watch the first developer diary, or behind the scenes video, of Hunt: Showdown.
The video starts with a look at Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, before it was rebooted into Showdown. Then, the game was more of a Left 4 Dead type of game, where players rushed forward through a rather linear environment in an attempt to reach the end alive.
Today, Hunt: Showdown is far more subtle and intense. As Creative Director Magnus Larbrant puts it: “reckless players are dead players.”
Gameplay consists of trudging through a Louisiana swamp filled with wildlife monsters. The main goal is to find, kill and banish a demon, but it’s not as simple as it sounds (and doesn’t sound so simple, to be honest). There are other monster hunters in the swamps, and they aren’t going to let you steal their kill (and loot).
That is where the PvPvE gameplay shines, according to the dev team. Players need to constantly be aware of their surrounding. Make too much noise, and you’ll draw the attention of both monsters and other players. Other players can actually hear you speak to your partner, if they’re close enough, so even communicating can land you in trouble.
You can see some of the PvPvE gameplay in the previous Hunt: Showdown video the studio released. It about 10 minutes of gameplay, and it shows a lot of what this behind the scenes video talks about.
Hunt: Showdown still doesn’t have a release date, but we do know it will launch of PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
