Fortnite, Epic Games’ third-person action building game, is available in Early Access on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

If you really want to play the game, you can buy it and play right now. However, if you’re not that excited about the game, or have other games to play first – you should wait.

Why? Because Fortnite will go free-to-play in 2018 on all platforms.

It’s been a while since we last wrote anything about Epic’s latest title, so lets cover the basics. As an “action building game”, Fortnite tasks you to work with friends to collect resources and build impenetrable fortresses. When night falls, you will have to defend your creation together.

You’ll build traps, turrets, mazes full of spikes and other delightful gizmos to hold the monstrous hordes at bay. You can also craft weapons like hydraulic pickaxes and ray guns.

You can see the game in action in the launch trailer above. It shows the building mechanic, the combat and the cel-shaded visual style. Towards the end of the video there’s an almost mandatory sky beam to remind us Fortnite has been in development since 2011.
