The first gameplay trailer for Need for Speed Payback is full of vehicular combat, fast driving and terrible voice acting. Yes, this is definitely the Need for Speed we know and love.
In the trailer we see Tyler and Jess, two of the game’s main characters, chasing down a truck through the desert. The truck is transporting a a car equipped with a new piece of technology, and the our crew wants it bad. Bad enough for Tyler to force other cars off the road and into telephone polls in spectacular slow-motion.
The really cool moment arrives when Jess jumps unto the truck and hijacks the car – while the truck is still going a gazillion MPH down the highway. The player than switches over to Jess, as she cruises in her new hi-tech ride straight into a police roadblock.
This little segment of gameplay is all part of The Highway Heist mission, which is in turn a part of the single-player campaign. The campaign follow Tyler, Jess and Mac as they set out to bring down The House, a cartel the rules Fortune Valley’s underworld. EA promises many more memorable moments like The Highway Heist throughout the campaign.
Need for Speed Payback also emphasizes customization, so you’ll be able to take down The House in the car of your dreams. You can take any car and transform it into a beast of a vehicle in one of the five distinct car classes: Race, Drift, Off-Road, Drag and Runner. Each class has its own strengths, and you’ll need to use the right one for the right job.
Right now, Need for Speed Payback is set to launch on November 10 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will also be playable on Project Scorpio and PS4 Pro, but that’s almost a given at this point.
