Far Cry 5 was officially announced today, just as the teaser trailer promised. You should watch the announcement trailer above first, so you can get an idea what kind of game this is going to be, though frankly if you played any of the previous Far Cry games, then you already know what to expect.
Set in America for the very first time, Far Cry 5 will cast players as the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana. The arrival of new law-enforcement personal to the area triggers a violent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult – the Project at Eden’s Gate.
Players will have to work together with the residences of the county and form the Resistance. If you want to meet 3 of the people you can recruit into your new movement, just scroll down until you reach more trailers. Watch them to learn more about Mary May, Pastor Jerome Jeffries, and Nick Rye, and what drives them to fight the Project at Eden’s Gate.
When it comes to gameplay, Far Cry 5 clearly follows the same open-world structure its predecessors did, though it also seems to add a few new elements of its own. For example, players will be able to hire mercenaries and even specialized animals, like bears and cougars, to fight alongside them as they take on the cult.
Speaking of fighting alongside someone, the story campaign features two-player co-op, so you can play the entire game with another player – another first for the series.
While exploring the vast Hope County, players will have access to multiple vehicles, such as iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs and boats. Players will also be able to take to the skies and engage cult forces in aerial dogfights across Big Sky Country.
Ubisoft are definitely trying t take the Far Cry series in a slightly different angle, which I’m all for. I like the premise of fighting a heavily armed doomsday cult in the American heartlands, and the new additions to the familiar formula are more than welcome. The game will also see the return of the map editor, with new features that “add a new dimension to the content created by fans.” So there going to be a lot more Far Cry to Far Cry 5.
Far Cry will be released on February 27, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the soon-to-be revealed Project Scorpio. As mentioned before, below you’ll find 3 more character trailers, as well as screenshots and some art form the game.
