The next Assassin’s Creed game, the one that’s scheduled to release later this year, will be named Assassin’s Creed Origins. Origins will take place in Egypt, and will feature 2 playable characters and naval combat. That is if we are to believe the latest leak.

An anonymous source at Ubisoft approached wwg.com to reveal new information regarding Assassin’s Creed 2017. According to this source, Assassin’s Creed Origins will be an a “vast open world experience taking place in ancient Egypt.” It’s rumored to be the biggest Assassin’s Creed game to date.

True to its name, Origins will tell that tale of the original assassin’s guild, will feature two main characters – a man and a woman. At this point we don’t know how these characters are related to other protagonists of the series, if at all.

With a greater emphasis on freedom, the game will be less linear than previous entries in the series. There will a greater focus on exploration, and will feature a character progression system that isn’t directly tied to the game’s story. The source compares Origins to The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim in that regard.

Speaking of exploration, Assassin’s Creed 2017 might even go beyond Egypt and as far as Greece. Players will be able to sail a ship across the Mediterranean sea, and participate in naval combat, just like in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and other games in the series.

Finally, a second source described an internal video teaser shown to staff at Ubisoft. The video did begin by showing scenes from Egypt, but then moved to different locations and time periods, like WW2 era France, an “Asian country” and a modern day Abstergo facility. This could indicate that Assassin’s Creed Origins will take place during several different time period, or at least jump between them in the same manner Assassin’s Creed Unity did.

Below you’ll find a screenshot of what we are told is Assassin’s Creed Origins. The current objective of this unnamed assassin is to “assassinate the Crocodile”. We don’t think they mean an actual crocodile, though.

Assassin’s Creed 2017 will be officially revealed at E3 2017, during Ubisoft’s press conference on June 11 or June 12.
