After years of pressure from fans, Blizzard has finally announced StarCraft Remastered, an HD version of the beloved and genre defining real-time strategy title.
StarCraft Remastered will feature HD visuals on units, building and environments, enhanced audio, and will support a wider array of resolutions suited for modern monitors. The Brood Wars expansion is part of the deal by the way, so you’re getting then complete StarCraft experience.
However, don’t expect it to look or play like a wholly different game. Blizzard told Team Liquid that they worked hard to make sure the gameplay experience is the same as the original’s. The remastered version is build on the same old engine, the screen ratio is the same as it was in Brood Wars, and everything is still 2D.
Even unit silhouettes and animations are exactly the same. Blizzard just wanted to “fill in the details” that they were unable to show back in 1998.
You can see the enhanced visuals in motion in the trailer above, or on the StarCraft Remastered official site where you can switch between the new and old graphics in real time.
StarCraft Remastered is set to launch this summer on PC.
