The next Call of Duty is returning to the series’ roots, if we are to believe a batch of leaked promotional images that made their way online. The images were send to the YouTube channel TheFamilyVideoGamers by an anonymous source claiming they are from “someone very close to the project over at Sledgehammer”.
Browsing the images, we can clearly see that the name of the new game will be Call of Duty: WWII, or World War II. Going back to the second World War is probably a safe move for Activison, as the futuristic combat of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare didn’t resonate with fans.
The promotional materiel doesn’t show much else besides the general settings of WWII, but there is imagery from the Normandy Landing, or D-Day. Because a WWII game isn’t complete without a D-Day level.
For now, neither Activision nor Sledgehammer Games have made any statement regarding the subject. Nor should they, as there is no way to confirm if these images are genuine, or are anything more than a focus group test. It’s important to take note the TheFamilyVideoGamers are a really small channel, with around 350 subscribers. Why anyone would send these images to them is beyond me, but stranger things have happened.
We’ll wait and see if Activision announces anything following this leak. You can see captures of the promotional material below.
