Rocket League is getting a new free mode called Dropshot next week. If Hoops mode was the game’s version of basketball, you can think of Dropshot as a take on Volleyball.

The goal (pardon the pun) of the new Dropshot mode is to break the floor panels on the opposing team’s side of the arena, and dunk the ball through the gaps. The new Core 707 arena is paved with small hexagon panels that break after taking two hits. The more Damage you do, the more panels will break with each hit.

Damage is a new stat the game will now record. It’s unclear how a player can do more Damage, but it may have something to do with the electrified ball.

The new ball has three different phases, each more powerful than the previous one. The more you can keep the ball off the ground, the more powerful it becomes, and the more Damage it deals. In the first phase, the ball will only destroy one panel per hit, but by the third phase, it can damage up to 19 panels.

Rocket League Dropshot mode will be available for free on March 22. A new patch will be released alongside Dropshot, bringing new cosmetic items, achievements, arenas and more.
