Warner Bros. has announced Middle-earth: Shadow of War, the anticipated sequel to 2014’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. It’s hard to tell whether this was a planned announcement, or a response to yesterday’s leak. Whichever the case,
Shadow of War picks up after the events of Shadow of Mordor. Talion and Celebrimbor work together to forge a new Ring of Power that will allow them to finally take on Sauron and the Nazgul. Players will once again roam an open world, fight the Dark Lord’s armies and build one of their own.
The Nemesis system s back, but this time it will effect more than the orc enemies. Talion can also recruit unique followers, each with its own story of “loyalty, betrayal and revenge.” Even the environment will be shaped by the player’s actions and choices through the Nemesis Fortresses system, which allows players to “utilize different strategies to conquer dynamic strongholds and create personalized worlds with their unique Orc army.”
Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be available for PC, Xbox One, Project Scorpio, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro beginning August 25. The Xbox One version a Play Anywhere title, so players will be able to download the game to their PC as well, if they choose.
