Another month, another 4 free games for Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners. The Games with Gold March 2017 lineup includes one horror game, two stellar action games and one arcade shooter.
As always, we start with the Xbox One games. On March 1, players will be able to delve into the broken mind of a disturbed painter in Layers of Fear. This first-person horror game is perfect for those who can appreciate fine art and a consuming obsession.
Then, starting March 16, you can grab four of your friends and play Evolve Ultimate Edition together. The 4v1 first-person shooter puts into the think skin of a vicious monster, or the four hunters who are after it. The different combinations of monsters, hunters and maps should make sure Evolve lasts for at least until the next batch of free games comes along. Also, since this is the Ultimate Edition, you’ll get additional skins and characters free of charge.
Xbox 360 owners with a dark sense of humor are in for a treat, because March brings Borderlands 2 (arguably the best Borderlands games) with it. It’s another co-op shooter, but one with tons and weapons, silly humor and extremely dangerous aliens. The second Xbox 360 game is Heavy Weapon, which is described as a “frantic arcade shoot ’em up”. Frankly, I’ve never heard about this one, but it has 19 story-based missions, survival mode and online co-op, so action fans should definitely check it out.
Remember – all Xbox 360 that are part of Games with Gold also work on the Xbox One, thanks to the console’s Backward Compatibility feature.
