Rebellion wants developers to make games based on Judge Dredd and the 2000AD comics.

As the company celebrated the 2000AD 40 Years Of Thrill Power Festival, CEO Jason Kingsley took to opportunity to announced they will be opening up the comics’ library of characters for licensing.

Kingsley would like Rebellion to work with other game developers and give them the “freedom to expand on the 2000AD library, including and Dredd-related characters.” He then specifically mentions Mega City One’s Helltrekkers, which is kind of like The Oregon Trail but with dinosaurs and nuclear fallout.

The 2000AD license isn’t very well known around the world, so Rebellion is expecting applications to be in the dozens instead of the hundreds. Kingsley himself thinks we’ll see around 4 or 5 games in the near future. Will we finally get a good Judge Dredd action game?
