Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night might take place inside a castle, much likes its spiritual forefather Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. However, the game doesn’t start in the castle.

The game’s latest gameplay video shows a village you’ll be passing through on your way to the castle. Right now it’s rather empty, but producer Koji Igarashi promised that in a later build it will be full of nasty demons trying to tear you limb from limb. There will also be a shop and at least one NPC (Johannes) in the village.

you may also notice that the village’s sky are “red as blood”. Well, that’s because of the eruption of the Laki volcanic fissure in 1783, the same year Bloodstained takes place in.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set for a 2018 release on PC, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Xbox One and Wii U.
