Crash Bandicoot N’Sane Trilogy, a “remaster plus” of the first three games in the Crash Bandicoot series, was announced today during the PlayStation Experience 2016 showcase.
The trailer shown mixes the right amount of nostalgia with modern graphics, as Crash jumps, spins and dances his way through familiar levels and enemies. I love how they kept that aesthetic of the original character but also made it even crazier by upgrading them epic eyebrows.
Developers Vicarious Visions have actually rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up, after studying the three classic games from every angle. “Using the original level geometry from Naughty Dog as a guide, we rebuilt the Crash gameplay from scratch, capturing its simplicity and precision,” wrote Game Director Dan Tanguay. “As the levels began to take shape, we layered in our own lush and zany art, animation, and audio.”
Since this is a “remaster plus” and not just the same old games with a fresh coat of paint, Vicarious Visions have added a few new features, like a unified checkpoints and save game system, and Time Trials to all three games. There will be more to come, but that’s what has been announced so far.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be a great chance for those who weren’t able to play the series before, to do so now with better graphics and sound, but same classic gameplay.
