Deadpool director Tim Miller has recently departed the production of Deadpool 2, after “creative differences” with star Ryan Reynolds. Today, we learn Miller has already found a new project to work on – the newly announced Sonic The Hedgehog movie, by Sony Pictures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller will act as executive producer on the film, and his longtime collaborator Jeff Fowler will direct. Sonic The Hedgehog will be Fowler’s feature directional debut. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, creators of Golan the Insatiable. will be penning the script.

Sony plans to make Sonic The Hedgehog a CG-animated/live-action hybrid for the whole family, which makes sense given the source material. It’s also quite the shift from the R-rated Deadpool.

Both Miller and Fowler are no strangers to animation, as they both created the Oscar-nominated animated short Gopher Broke in 2005. They are also currently working with David Fincher on an animated adaptation of cult comic The Goon.

Although no new details about the Sonic The Hedgehog’s plot or release date were given, we know that the movie will be released some time in 2018.
