Nintendo has official revealed the Nintendo NX, or should I say Nintendo Switch.

The announcement came in the form of a 3-minute trailer, which shows smiling people use the new console in various different locations, like a living room, a park, an airport and even a car.

Yes, the Switch aims to blur the line between a home console and a portable one. It can be used at home, plugged into TV, or you can take it on the go as screen with detachable controllers. It is clear from the trailer that the transition between the two modes is instantaneous, and that the real “brain” of the console is located in the portable screen, and not the base connected to the TV.

This means that you can take your Nintendo Switch’s portable screen and plug it into a base at a friend’s house, and immediately have access to all your games and content, which is pretty cool.

The video also shows how the controller, seen in the image below, can be used as both a classic controller at home (though we also seen a separate standard controller) or two smaller controllers when outside. These smaller controllers can be attached to the portable screen, detached for a wireless experience, and can even serve as two completely independent controllers for local multiplayer.

There are still plenty of questions left unanswered by this trailer, but at least we now have a better understanding of what Nintendo is planning of the future.

It is still unclear if the Switch is meant to replace the Wii U, the 3DS both, or none. We’ll have to wait for Nintendo to reveal even more information on the Swtich, hopefully in the coming days.

The Nintendo Switch will be available on March 2017.
