Metal Gear Survive was announced at Gamescom 2016 with a rather cinematic trailer. Now, TGS 2016 brings us the first public gameplay footage from the game, showing all the new gamepaly mechanics.

During the video, we can see series’ iconic stealth gameplay, but also plenty of exploration, shooting, action and item crafting. However, the main focus is on cooperative play, and how four players can work together to guard a certain location, or split up to cover more ground and find more resources.

The specific mission on display sees the player securing a location, constructing a transmitter and then defending it against waves of zombies. It’s a great opportunity to see how the crafting system works – players go about collecting resources from the environment, and then use a crafting table to craft barriers, turrets and other defensive items. It’s possible there will be more crafting options in the full game.

We also get a good look at some of the weapons available, which seem to be quite diverse, and the enemies who we’ll use these weapons against. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of variety in the zombies’ ranks, as they all look pretty identical to one another.

Watch the entire gameplay video above for all the new details. Metal Gear Survive is set for release in 2017, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It’s the first Metal Gear game without Kojima, so it should be interesting to see where the franchise will go from here.
