Square Enix rocked the San Diego Comic Con show floor as they unveiled the global launch trailer for their upcoming animated film, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.

The trailer was jam packed with a lot of the film’s big action moments, as well as some of its lighthearted ones.  Where the big moment in previous trailers centered around epic armies and brief glimpses at Chimeras, the global trailer showcases an army of epic fantasy creatures, enormous monsters and epic warships. While the Empire of Niflheim is very much the opposing force of the film, the vast armies of fantasy beasts could very well be a disaster that neither side is prepared for.

But perhaps the biggest reveal was just how much of a sprawling epic this movie will be. Much like the Final Fantasy games in general, this film will explore a rich world through its expansive landscapes and exotic creatures.

According to the official press release that was posted on the official PlayStation blog, the storytellers at Stage 6 and distributors at Sony worked very hard to make the film an inclusive story. Although part of an overarching tale, Kingsglaive will stand on its own.

Specifically, Square Enix stated, “Final Fantasy is a magical world, we’ve tried to make it understandable from an outsider’s point of view”. However, they went on to tease that people who play the full game will get more than a few easter egg references to the film.

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV tells the story that sets the events of Final Fantasy XV in motion. Fans of the series will be able to experience the film in theaters on August 19, digitally on August 30 and Blu-ray or DVD on October 4.
