Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have release a new live-action trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind, providing insight into how things changed since the end of the original Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Human augmentation is no longer the future, as society now fears and persecutes augmented individuals. New laws call for the separation of Augs and Natural people, forcing augmented people into closed off ghettos in what the trailer refers to as The Mechanical Apartheid.

The Augs, in turn, try to resist these cruel laws, some going as far as committing acts of terror against the populace, making things much, much worse. As an augmented person himself, protagonist Adam Jensen will undoubtedly be facing some very tough decisions.

The trailer manages to capture the intricacies and the emotional turmoil of the situation. Hopefully this will be the level of storytelling we’ll experience when we play Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on August 23.
