Now that Disney is no longer making and publishing PC and console games, the creator of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion would like to have his original IPs back.
Rob Gilbert, an icon in the world of classic adventure games, has expressed interest in acquiring the rights to his old IPs that were sold to Disney when it bought LucasFilm and LucasArts back in 2012.
Gilbert specifically tweeted about Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion (misspelled as Mansion Mansion).
Dear @Disney, now that you’re not making games, please sell me my Monkey Island and Mansion Mansion IP. I’ll pay real actual money for them.

These days, Ron Gilbert and Manic Mansion co-creator Gary Winnick are working on Thimbleweed Park, an adventure game heavily inspired by the very same IPs Gilbert now wished to buy off Disney.
Disney already stated it is willing to license out its IPs, but outright selling them might not be in the cards. Still, it would be interesting to see what Ron Gilbert will do if he gets his paws on Monkey Island.
