Like a creeping sensation in the back of your mind, the new Call of Cthulhu title is pretty mysterious and unnerving. Today, we got to learn a few more details about the game, two new screenshots, and will hopefully manage to retain our sanity in the process.
In Call of Cthulhu, you’ll take the reigns of Edward Pierce, former veteran and private investigator in 1920s Boston. Edward leaves for Darkwater Island to investigate the tragic and mysterious death of Sarah Hawkins and her family. In true Lovecraftian fashion, this investigation will uncover the dark and nefarious secrets buried on the Island.
As the screens below show, this dark and dreary locale will offer a sinister atmosphere, from the foreboding docks to the eerie manor of the deceased family. These are not the first pair of screenshots we’ve seen from the game, but they are certainly the most detailed ones.
Lovecraft has inspired countless works based on his legendary universe. This official adaptation of Chaosium’s pen and paper RPG will feature not only investigation and stealth mechanics, but psychological terror inspired by the Sleeper of R’lyeh itself.
Call of Cthulhu will be released in 2017 on PC and current generation consoles.
