id Software Co-founders John Romero and Adrian Carmack have canceled the Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming FPS, Blackroom.
The Kickstarter for Blackroom by Night Work Games was only live for a week before the Creative Director and Art-Director decided to suspend the campaign. The announcement was made to backers on the official Kickstarter through a heartfelt press release. Stating simply, “There’s a hitch here, a hitch that’s making us do something that’s right for the game, the team, and the community: we’re pressing ‘PAUSE’ on the fundraising campaign for Blackroom to complete this gameplay demo.”
The developers are citing the overwhelming feedback they’ve received from the community. Having listened with an open mind, they decided that a polished game demo is necessary in order to complete their envisioned game. This became further complicated by the fact that the time needed to complete the demo would take longer to finish than they have time for in their fundraising campaign.
While this is a minor set back, gamers who were interested in supporting Blackroom can rest assured that when it returns, it will have a lot more than a trailer to show for it.
